Preventative Maintenance Sees a 86% Reduction in Downtime due to Breakdowns
The Problem
A UK water organisation were calling us regularly due to their drives breaking down.
Our Objective
To effectively reduce the costs associated with drive breakdowns, site downtime through increasing reliability.
The Background
A large UK water company were calling us regularly for breakdown assistance. After our engineers had been a few times and noticed the conditions of the drives, they recommended a preventative maintenance (MS kits) be carried out on the drives. The drives themselves were 7 – 8 years old, of different sizes and power ratings.
Preventative Maintenance at a Glance
As drive service partners to the leading main manufacturers we regularly train with them, therefore all of our preventative maintenance is carried out within the specified manufacturers guidelines which are listed below:
- 3 Years, Auxiliary Fan replacement
- 6 Years, Main and Auxiliary Fan replacement
- 9 Years, DC capacitors, Ribbon cables, interface board and Auxiliary Fan replacements
- Main and Auxiliary Fan replacement
Cleaning and removal of ingress at each stage
Manufacturers Guidelines
Drives manufacturers recommend preventative maintenance be carried out on all drives and 3, 6, 9 and 12 years old, alongside annual servicing. As per manufacturers guidelines, due to the age of the drives, the assets onsite were overdue 3 and 6 year maintenance.
Our Solution
Once seeing the reliability issues they were facing, and the time and costs being wasted due to their drive failure we conducted a recommendations report based on our findings and presented this to the water company and outlined the cost effective benefits of maintenance spares. Our engineers attended and installed3 and 6-year maintenance spares throughout the facility.
The Results
As a result of the preventative maintenance, the water company saw a huge reduction in their breakdown as drives were now running to their full potential. After installation and upkeep of the maintenance spares the company saw an 86% reduction in downtime due to breakdowns.
